As Marcus Aurelius said, “Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.”

How to Live a Happy Life?

I’ve mentioned a few steps below that I’ve practiced to live a happy life!

Material possessions won’t make you happy

Material things commonly won’t make you happy long-term. Certainly, in the precise term, it feels great. Whether it’s a new car, TV or just a broad entrance of money. But as you become habitual to the new position, the impression dissolves. A research concluded that a few months after winning, the pleasure levels were not significantly altered from non-winners. It’s called hedonic adaption.

It is not the man who has too little that is poor, but the one who hankers after more.”  Seneca

Do something out of your comfort zone

Comfort zones are prisons. Yes, it makes you feel safe. But how can you grow as a person if you’re too afraid to try new things? Do things out of your comfort zone. Things that will further your knowledge. Start with the small things and built upon that. Turn your phone off for the day. Try a new food. Talk to a stranger. These are only a few small modifications you can make to test the waters outside of your comfort zone.

“Do one thing every day that scares you.”  Eleanor Roosevelt

Be happy for others, and thankful for what you have

You should always strive for better. But you also need to be thankful for what you have. Once you settle into that mindset, you’ll find yourself being less envious of others and more satisfied with what you have. You might even find this encourages you on to do great things.

“He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.” — Epictetus

Be more self-aware

Before you know what makes you satisfied, you need to know yourself. In this age, we rarely have time to just sit and think. We’re hurried from the instant we wake up until the moment we hit the pillow. Emails, texts, phone calls, social media. Even while falling asleep, your mind is rushing, thinking about the next day. It’s also necessary to switch off and let your mind rest. Examination is a great way to do this and comes with numerous advantages.

“Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power.” Lao Tzu

Stop bothering what people think: How to Live a Happy Life?

Stop being a people pleaser! Do what makes you happy. Concentrate on what induces joy to your life. Be unapologetic. Don’t permit yourself to be manipulated emotionally. Surround yourself with people that appreciate you. Eliminate noxious people from your life. Too many people bend over backward for others at their own expense. One day when you look back on your life, you want to say you’re glad you lived your life for you.

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” — Dr. Seuss
