A plane was delayed almost seven hours when a woman opens the emergency door accidentally while looking for the toilet door. The plane was on the runway when the event took place. The woman was boarding flight PK702 from Manchester Airport to Islamabad with Pakistan International Airlines on Friday.
Woman accidently opens emergency exit door while looking for Toilet
The woman got up from her seat and neglected the signs of seat belts which were on. Incompetent to wait until the flight had departed. She opens emergency door substituting it for the bathroom door. As she opened the door, the emergency evacuation slide is expanded immediately.
But then she realized she had opened the emergency chute, which indicates the departure of the plane had to be delayed.
Rather than leaving at 9:20 pm on Friday as it was scheduled the plane ultimately took off at 5 am on the Saturday morning, before landing at 4 pm the latter day.Usually, cabin crew would be seated at the emergency exit but it is not obvious why they were absent to counter this misadventure?
The spokesperson of PIA said, “We regret the delay of PK771, which is an unfortunate consequence of the delay of PK702, caused due to a passenger opening the emergency door.” “We strongly urge passengers to follow security instructions as such mishaps result in inconvenience of hundreds of other passengers” he added.
“As per standard operating procedure, the PIA had to offload nearly 40 passengers and their luggage,” the spokesperson clarified. PIA’s chief executive, Air Marshall Arshad Malik ordered an inquiry into the incident.
When the woman was investigated why she had opened the emergency door, she said that she believed it was the toilet.
Authorities say that the plane’s airbag shoot had opened by blunder due to a deficiency of PIA staff the day earlier.
