Even after an entire year of struggling against the spread of this deadly virus, there’s a terrifying amount of things we still have to discover about COVID-19 and its long-term impacts on a person’s health. Though, recently, a doctor from Texas, who treated thousands of COVID patients since March, shared some helpful insights on the condition and its results after comparing three lungs X-rays: one of a healthy patient, one of a smoker, and one of a COVID-19 patient. See the effects of COVID-19 on the lungs yourself.

Dr. Brittany Bankhead-Kendall, an assistant professor at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, took to Twitter to share that post-COVID lungs look way more critical than any type of continuous smoker’s lungs she’s ever seen.

The lungs of a healthy patient seem to be pure as they have a lot of black space, indicating that a person can inhale a good deal of air.
